Doris Lynwood Hawkins Meeks, 82, of Lynchburg, VA, died Tuesday, April 16, 2019. She was the loving and devoted wife of James Hampton Meeks, Jr., for 61 years.
Born Wednesday, February 10, 1937 in Lynchburg, at Marshall Lodge Memorial Hospital. Doris was a daughter of the late Vernon Lee Hawkins and the late Madelyn Irvin Hawkins.
In addition to her husband, Doris is survived by her children, James H. Meeks, III (Robin), Thomas H. Meeks (Rick Doyle), Vernon L. Meeks (Kendra), five grandchildren, Anthony Meeks, Chris Wright (Brandi), Ricky Lee Meeks (Taylor), Jennifer Meeks, and Evan Meeks, a great grandson, Braden Lee Meeks, and a brother, I. Lee Hawkins (Jan).
Doris was devoted to her family, and raised them to show respect to others. Being the only granddaughter, Jennifer was the apple of her eye. Doris loved to shop, knit and crochet, and was known for her corn pudding. Doris was dedicated member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A Graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Presbyterian Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Reynolds officiating.
