Shirley Virginia Leftwich Burnette, 82, of Bedford passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Cardinal Senior Living while surrounded by her family. She was born in Bedford, VA on November 15, 1936. A daughter of the late Paul Bargamin Leftwich and Ruby Blanche Agee Leftwich. In addition to her parents Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Homer “Billy” Burnette and a brother, Paul William Leftwich.
Shirley retired from the Bedford County School System as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, housekeeping and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister.
Shirley is survived by her two children, David William “Doughnut” Burnette and his wife, Ramona and Melanie Burnette Tuck and her husband, Van; four grandchildren, Deric William Burnette, Crysta Michelle Rector and her husband, Josh, Chelsey Lynn Burnette and Mikala Kathryn Travis; two great-grandchildren, Charlee Sue Rector and Ty Ryan Rector; sister, Mary Leftwich Wright. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

A funeral service and celebration of Shirley’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, June 3, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford with Rev. Vernon Delong officiating. Burial will follow at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford.
