Frank Kerr Hummel, Jr., 87, of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. He was the husband of Betty Catherine Johnson Hummel.
Born in New Rochelle, New York on March 24, 1932, he was a son of the late Frank Kerr Hummel, Sr. and Mildred Sutherland Hummel. He is also preceded in death by his sister: Patricia Grave and her husband, Gene.
Frank was a graduate of New Rochelle High School and Cornell University, where he played varsity football. He served two years on active duty in the U.S. Army, retiring as a 1st Lieutenant. His career in marketing communications with a large agribusiness firm spanned 38 years. Frank was involved in church and community activities when he and his family lived in Ithaca, NY, Middlebury, Vt, the Syracuse, NY area, and at Smith Mountain Lake, VA, where he was an active member of Radford Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his daughter: Catherine Hummel; sons: John Hummel and wife, Audrey, Thomas Hummel and wife, Elisabeth, Paul Hummel and wife, Kimberly; six grandsons: Jeremy, Darren, Timothy, Stephen, Matthew, and James; three granddaughters: Priscilla, Bethany, and Heather; and one great grandson: Noah.
His Godly wisdom and dedicated service will be missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday Feb. 8 at 2pm at Radford Baptist Church. Visitation at 1 pm In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Agape Center at PO box 573, 1159 Promise Land Rd., Moneta, Va 24121.
