Sherman Alonza Thornhill Sr. departed this life on May 11, 2020 at Accordius Health at Lynchburg. Born on August 7, 1937 in Lynchburg Va.
He was the son of the late Rudolph and Ella Fitch Thornhill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Velma T. Mitchell (Rev. Robert Mitchell) Mrs. Norma Brown (Edward) and Mrs. Ervistine Hood (Lawrence) and one brother, Rudoloph L. Thornhill Jr.
He worked at Griffin Pipe as a supervisor, three post offices as a custodian, and Forest Baptist Church also as a custodian. Sherman enjoyed serving the Lord and was a member of Tree of Life Ministries. He loved reading and applying Psalm 91 to his life daily. He also enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his devoted wife Rhonda of 37 years; two sons Sherman Alonza Thornhill Jr. (Patrice), John Clinton Thornhill (Brenda); three daughters, Tonzar Olanda Jones(Vincent) Kimberly Lynette Shaw, and Latesha Marie Thornhill; thirteen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews including a devoted nephew Garrison Thornhill.
Sherman also cherished his extended family and friends Adolph and Alma Acosta, Helen Wade, Jeffrey and Joanne Anderson, Loraine Coles, Tim and Susie Drinkard and family, Ray and Edith Mann (deceased), Rev. Corry Hunt, Mrs. Sharon Jefferson, and Jim and Donna Guill. Since there were many people who aided in the care of Sherman, the family would like to thank Tree of Life Ministry – Pastor Mike Dodson (Debie), the Pastors and the Tree of Life Family, the staff of Accordius Health of Lynchburg, Campbell County Department of Social Services, Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center,Heartland of Lynchburg, Ortho Virginia, New London Family Physicians, Timberlake Family Physicians, Gastroenterology Associates of Central Virginia, Radiology Consultants, Harmon Eye Center, Seven Hills Urology, Stroobants Cardiovascular Center, Hospice of Lynchburg, Lynchburg General Hospital, VA Baptist Hospital, and Wells Fargo.
