Thomas Edward Gough

Thomas E. Gough of Lynchburg died on January 16, 2021 at his home.  Born September 18, 1943, he was the son of the late Edward G. and Blanche Aylor Gough. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Walker Gough, and their two daughters, Dabney Gough (Tyler McMahon) of Honolulu, Oahu, and Elizabeth W. Gough-Gordon (Jay Gordon) of Brooklyn, New York.  He is also survived by his sisters, Rebecca G. Towler of Lynchburg, and Elizabeth G.  Sollenberger of Woodstock, Virginia; and a sister-in-law, Ann W. Smith of Lynchburg.  He is survived by a number of nephews and nieces. Tom was a graduate of Rustburg High School (Class of 1961) and Lynchburg College (Class of 1965). During and after college he worked at Southern States Cooperative.  He retired in 2005 after 32 years of service with the City of Lynchburg.  He was proud to have served 29 years in the US Army Reserves, 80th Division. He was a member of Indian Hill United Methodist Church and attended The Well.  Tom was a member of Reedy Spring #203 Masonic Lodge and the Valley of Lynchburg Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He was a former member of the L/CVA Emmaus Community and was a volunteer at Poplar Forest in the Hands-on History program.  He also was a volunteer weather recorder for Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Sleet network. Because of Covid restrictions a memorial service will be held at a later date.  The family has requested no flowers, but memorial gifts may be made to Indian Hill United Methodist Church (c/o Judy Davis, 579 Quail Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24504); to The Well (PO Box 2565, Forest, VA 24551); or to the American Indian College Fund (8333 Greenwood Blvd., Denver, CO 80221).
