 Adeline Adelaide Ford, 92, of Forest, died Saturday, January 30, 2016. She was the wife of the late Henry Webster Ford. Born Wednesday, March 7, 1923 in Manhattan, NY, a daughter of the late Frank A. Gehrig and the late Josephine Hendricks Gehrig. Adeline is survived by two daughters, Jane Rega Brunett, of Forest, and Evelyn Rega Macguire and husband Tom, of Vermilion, OH, a son George Ford and wife Heather, of Tracy, CA, four grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband Adeline was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Lewis Rega, a daughter, Lois Rega, and a son in-law Robert Brunett. Mary Scott Sutherland Dias, 50, of Woodbridge, Virginia, passed away on January 31, 2016, after a long illness. Born in Lynchburg on March 27, 1965, she was the eldest daughter of Doris Hanson Sutherland and the late Sidney Everette Sutherland III. Mary Scott was a graduate of Villa Maria Academy and E. C. Glass High School. She earned her BA from the College of William & Mary in 1987 and subsequently earned her paralegal degree. A 27–year veteran of the United States Tax Court, Mary Scott began her career as a Trial Clerk for the court in 1988 and went on to serve as Chambers Administrator for three federal judges. From training clerks to coordinating trials, Mary Scott was known for her warmth, attention to detail, and dedication to her work. Outside of work, Mary Scott loved supporting her sports teams — especially the Pittsburgh Steelers — and hosting game-day parties for friends. She and her husband, Bob, enjoyed any opportunity to travel, especially cruises, and had a knack for finding great restaurants wherever they went. Mary Scott also loved baking goodies for friends and family, and she was affectionately known as a mother hen. Perhaps more than anything, she enjoyed spoiling her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Dias of Woodbridge; her mother, Doris Sutherland of Lynchburg, Virginia; her brother and sister-in-law, John E. and Susan M. Sutherland of Baltimore, Maryland; her sister and brother-in-law, Laura O. Sutherland and William T. Van Doren of Charlottesville, Virginia; her mother-in-law, Dorothy A. Dias of Woodbridge; her brother-in-law Timothy Dias of Culpeper, Virginia; her aunt and uncle, Shirley H. and Richard D. Roberts of Virginia Beach, Virginia; niece Sherri L. Dias of Culpeper; nephew Alexander G. Dias of Culpeper; nieces Sydney E. Sutherland (goddaughter) and Grace T. Sutherland of Baltimore; nephew Edward J. Sutherland of Baltimore; and cousins Cathy Dodge of Virginia Beach, Helen Roberts of Virginia Beach, and Caroline Darby of Birmingham, Alabama, as well as their families. The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg on Thursday, February 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg on Friday, February 5, at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.   Kathy Marie Lovern Brammer, 61, of Thaxton, died Monday, February 1, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Maurice Howard Brammer.   Born March 22, 1954 in Blacksburg, she was a daughter of the late Wiley Minor Lovern and Dorothy Lee Cromer Lovern. She is also preceded in death by one sister: Emma D. Hughes. Kathy also leaves behind to cherish her memory, one daughter: Frances Marie Custer , and husband, Dwayne; 5 step-children: Maurice Howard, Jr. and wife, Brenda, Lou Ellen Poff and husband, William, Teresa Ann Taylor and husband, Donald, Kim Elaine Stewart, and husband, Darrell, Elsie Marie Womack and husband, Roger, sisters: Linda Steele, and husband, Kelly, Nina Eanes,(Ben) Fay Adams (Buddy), Hazel Agee,(Charles), Shirleane Luokkala, (Pete), Jean Steele Hodges (Earl); brothers: Freddie Lovern (Theresa), Jerry Lovern (Jane), Johnnie Lovern (Rachel); grandchildren: Jeremy and Kelsey Custer, 17 grandchildren; great-grandchild: Layla Murillo and 4 step-grandchildren. Tony Gray Short, 81, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Runk & Pratt Senior Living Communities, Hardy, VA. He was born in Mt. Airy, N.C., but grew up in Greensboro, N.C. He served in the US Army in the Korean War and retired as Chief of Internal Review with the Department of Defense in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Austin Short, daughters, Annette Hodges and husband, Jack, Lisa Hobbs and husband, Milt; granddaughter Michele Anderson and husband, Ricky, 3 great grandchildren, sister, Deby Stinson, 4 nephews, one niece, 4 step-grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, and numerous first cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter O. and Lois S. Short, sister, Dot Lackey and brothers-in-law, Jerry Lackey, Jerry Stinson and Neil Pickard and sister-in-law, Martha Pickard. Memorial service will be Friday, February 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Moneta, VA with Pastor David Lord officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. David Benjamin Wallace

David Benjamin Wallace, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 4, 2016. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota, January 23, 1932, a son of the late Alan Lockhart Wallace and Esther Henby Wallace. He was also preceded in death by a son David Benjamin Wallace Jr., who passed away January 28, 2015. David graduated from New Trier High School in 1949. He was a graduate of Hamilton College in 1953, Clinton, NY, and Cornell University in 1959 where he received his MBA. He was an officer in the U S Navy and was first stationed on a Destroyer and served two years in Key West, FL. After moving to Lynchburg, he worked at Old Dominion Box Company for two years then joined the Chapstick Company where he was a Vice President and worked for 29 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He volunteered his time in many local organizations including the Kiwanis Club where he served as President. He was active in the Speech and Hearing Center. He was a Civil War enthusiast, loved genealogy, a world traveler, and a regular attender of Civil War Round Table. He loved his Redskins, Chicago Cubs, and UVA basketball. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Diana; son, William Wallace and fiancée Heidi Truong of Fredericksburg; daughter and son-in-law, Katharine and Mark Wheeler, of Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren, Dylan Wallace, of Bridgewater, Mass., Kyle Wallace Wheeler, Lilian Kathryn Wheeler, and Jack Wallace Wheeler all of Greenville, S.C., also Hailey Nguyen, of Fredericksburg; brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and Jennie Wallace of Raleigh, N.C. A celebration of life service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home 2 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 with The Rev. Dr. James J.H. Price and The Rev. Dr. Fred Holbrook officiating. Following the service, a light reception with the family will be held in the Commonwealth Room at Tharp Funeral Home. Interment will follow at a later date in the Kenesico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y. Betty Ann Carlton Ritter, 84, of Forest, died Thursday, February 04, 2016. She was the devoted wife of the late Clay Jessup Ritter for 59 years. Born August 6, 1931 in Plant City, FL, Betty was a daughter of the late Chester Clarence Carlton and the late Ora Mae Stock Carlton. In addition to her husband, and parents, Betty was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Carlton; four sisters, Mary Gresham, Alice Jenrette, Lucille Causey and Lois Carlton; and one granddaughter, Lyndsey Parks. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Mary Lee Parks and her husband, Forrest, of Fayetteville, AR, and Linda Carroll and her husband, Joe, of Forest, five grandchildren Jack Carroll, of Baltimore, MD; Ann Carroll, of Savannah, GA; Alex Ritter, USN, Sigonella Naval Air Station, Sicily; Grace Carroll, of Forest; and Katie Parks Smittle and husband Joe of Talala, OK; and one great-grandson, Gibson Smittle. Betty spent her life caring for others. As a young bride moving frequently with Clay’s work, Betty located the nearest Red Cross office to volunteer her services. After settling in Fairfax, VA, to raise her family, Betty joined Meals-on-Wheels becoming their driver coordinator. Betty was always active in her church. As a member of Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax, she served on the altar guild and was part of the “Tuesday Lunch Bunch” who served lunch to the local community while attendees heard the Good News. To become acclimated to her new home in Forest and to continue serving others, Betty again joined Meals-on-Wheels and also the Bedford Ride. Betty and Clay were members of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where she served as Altar Guild director. Most recently Betty worshipped at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church with her family. A celebration of Betty's life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Forest, with the Rev. Catharine Montgomery officiating.   Charlotte Leona King Karnes, 82, of Bedford, went to be with our heavenly Father on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Bennett Karnes, Jr. Born August 27, 1933 in Dante, VA she was the daughter of the late Delmar King and Beulah Thomas King. Charlotte had several jobs outside the home. Her greatest love was the farm she helped run, especially the apple orchard and her garden. She was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Delmar Junior and wife, Alice, Robert “Bobby” King and wife, Sybill. Charlotte is survived by her son: John Byron Karnes and wife, Wendy of Bedford; daughters: Constance Karnes Finley and husband, Greg of Pickens, S.C., Cynthia Karnes Barlow and husband, Donald of Bedford, Donna Karnes Friske and husband, Todd of Bedford, Deanna Karnes Carwile; special friend, Jack Briggs of Amherst; brothers: Jimmy King and wife, Liz, Freddie King and wife, Connie; sister: Lois Prillaman; brothers in law: Jack Karnes and wife, Brenda, Edward Karnes; sister in law: Isabelle Belton and husband, Bob. twelve grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, many family and friends especially longtime neighbors, the Hensley family and all the children who considered her as”Granny” Funeral service will be held, Monday, February 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Tharp Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Allan Frederick Tuthill, 74, of Forest, died on Thursday, February 4, 2016. He was the husband of Helen Wernikowski Tuthill for fifty-two years. Allan was born on November 14, 1941 in Long Island, NY a son of the late Sherrill H. Tuthill and the late Hazel Hadel Tuthill. Allan retired as Chief Accountant for Suffolk County in Riverhead, NY. He was a communicant and active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Lynchburg, VA. He and Helen moved to Forest, VA in December 2006 after the birth of their first grandchild Anna. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa Alderson and husband, Ed of Forest; one son, David Tuthill and wife, Kristena of Raleigh, NC; and three grandchildren, Anna Alderson of Forest, Kyleigh Tuthill of Raleigh, NC and Shayne Tuthill serving in the U. S. Army in South Korea. A funeral mass will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church officiated by Monsignor Michael McCarron. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and again at a reception following the service at the church. Randall “Randy” Fischer died Friday, February 5, 2016. His parents were Mildred and William Fischer, both deceased, of Buffalo Lake, MN. Randy grew up on his parents’ farm. He graduated from Buffalo Lake High School and attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis and then the University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus. He enlisted in the U S Air force in 1952. After basic training he trained and became a Tower Control Operator. He went to Officer’s Training School and then to Flight School and graduated in 1954. The majority of his flight hours were in the C-130. After countless missions and a tour in Vietnam, he retired after 23 years. On January 1, 1954 Randy married Ione Hanson at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Windom, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children: their older daughter Nancy and husband Victor Evans, their son David and wife Joie, daughter Karen and her husband Eric Kenny. Randy dearly loved and enjoyed eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson: Kelsie Evans, husband Douglas Woodhouse and Reed, Tori and husband Mathieu Devillers, Julie Evans, Jacob Fischer, Cassie Fischer, Kristen Kenny, Margaret Kenny and Michael Kenny. Randy enjoyed most any sport but especially loved horseback riding. He and Ione realized a dream in 1980 when they bought a horse farm near Raeford, North Carolina. There they bred, raised, trained and showed Arabian horses. The grandchildren have many great memories of the farm. In 2000 they moved to Lynchburg where they spent many happy hours watching the grandchildren play a variety of sports. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church became their church home. There they nurtured their faith and made many new friends. They found a real sense of belonging. Special thanks to Pastor Dennis Roberts and to the Church Family for all their love and support. Thank you to all the nurses, social workers and hospice caretakers at Westminster Canterbury who treated Randy with care and dignity. A memorial service for Randy will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Bernard Clinton Yeatts

Bernard Clinton Yeatts, 87, of Forest, Virginia, went to be home with the Lord on Friday, February 5, 2016. Bernard was born on April 16, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia and was the oldest son of the late Clarence Yeatts and the late Lora Towler Yeatts. He joined the United States Navy in 1945 during the last months of World War II and is a veteran of the Korean War. After being honorably discharged as a Chief Petty Officer (Chief Boatswain's Mate) in the Navy, Bernard spent the rest of his career in civil service as a Merchant Marine.   Bernard met his wife of over forty years, Aida Jakaria Yeatts, while he was stationed in the Philippines. In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara McCormick, Evelyn Scott and Loreen Stephens. In addition to his wife, Bernard is survived by his children, Sherry Yeatts Hutter and her husband, Chris, of Richmond, and Sean Yeatts, of Forest, and his grandchildren, Christian and Jacob Hutter, of Richmond. He is also survived by three adopted children, Gerfa Lunsmann and her husband Heiko, of Lynchburg, Zenaida Goins and her husband Robert, of Lynchburg and Enrico Yeatts and his wife Connie, of Virginia Beach, and each of their children, respectively, Joshua Driskill, Kevin Lunsmann, Jared Goins, Eric Yeatts and Edward James Yeatts. He is further survived by his siblings, Dorothy Cofer, of Memphis, Tennessee, Ruby North, of Evington, Clarence Yeatts, Jr. and his wife Janet, of Madison Heights, James Yeatts and his wife Hollis, of Goode, and Becky Mack and her husband, Gregory, of Atlanta, Georgia, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bernard or “Pop” was a beloved father, brother and husband who loved music, politics, classic movies, working on his yard and playing his guitar. Pop participated in the Inchon Landing during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his distinguished service and traveled and lived all over the world. Pop was also a great storyteller who carried with him a wealth of wisdom and wit and he’ll always be remembered for his sharp sense of humor along with his kind and generous spirit. Pop, also affectionately known as "Dad" by his family from the Philippines, will be missed by everyone whose lives he’s touched throughout the years and will never be forgotten thanks to all the wonderful memories he left behind. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory in Lynchburg. A celebration of Bernard's life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Larry Brodie. Emily Luck Dooley Williamson  Emily Luck Dooley Williamson, 73, of Bedford, died Sunday, February 7, 2016. She was the wife of Robert “Bobby” Williamson. Born August 7, 1942 to the late Josephine Luck Cofer, raised by her grandparents Wellington and Gladys Luck. Emily graduated from Montvale High School where she was very active in sports, especially basketball. After graduation, she completed her Associates Degree from National Business College. She worked in the insurance industry for 42 years. Emily has been an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and the many Senior Citizen activities she attended throughout the county. She is survived by family: Marshall Cofer and his wife Bonnie, Clyde Cofer, Paul Luck , Jack “Jimmy” Luck and wife Jenna Lee, Nancy Trout and her husband Bob, Betty Ann Ferrell; three step children of Hamid N. Dooley: Peggy Dooley Key, Sandra Dooley Robertson, and Charles “Poochie” Dooley; numerous nieces and nephews. Billie June Sublett 84, of Forest, VA, died Sunday, February 7, 2016. She was the wife of Harry C. Sublett, Jr. for sixty-two years. Billie (known fondly as “BJ”) was born Wednesday, September 23, 1931 in Lynchburg, Va., a daughter of the late Robert Edward Carter and Mary Mcguire May. She was retired from Caskie Paper Co. where she was a bookkeeper. She was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the United States Tennis Association where she played the sport she loved. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Kelly Vanaman and husband Steve, of Forest, Va. and Tracy Begue of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Lindsey Begue, of N.Y., Michael Vanaman, of Harrisonburg, Va., Lauren Begue, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Chris Vanaman, of Forest, Va.; two sisters, Margaret Carter Falwell, Angela Carter Moore and her husband, Tim, all of Forest Va.; four brothers, David Carter and wife Janie, Ron Carter, and wife Kathy all of Texas, Jerry Carter and wife, Carolyn of Delaware, Tim Carter and wife Cindy of Lynchburg, Va.; sister-in-law, Mary Sublett, of Harrisonburg, Va. and a host of nieces and nephews. Anna Rhae Coleman Baldwin, age 70, of Bedford, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016. Anna was born on March 18th, 1945 in Pike County, Kentucky the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Lavelle Coleman. Anna was a graduate of Belfry High School in Belfry, Kentucky. Anna worked for Bedford County Public Schools at Liberty High School as a Teacher’s Aide before retiring after 16 years. She enjoyed helping special education students during and after school hours. She was also actively involved in the cheerleading program at Liberty. Anna liked helping with all types of church activities and helping people in need. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles Franklin Baldwin; two daughters, Sheri Lynn Baldwin Brown of Hobart, IN, Rebecca Denise Spinner and her husband Robert Antonio of Lynchburg, VA; three grandsons; Robert Addison, Charles Tyson and Jamison Ray Spinner; sisters; Betty Coleman McNeil of Greer, SC, Cynthia Hildebrant of Sun City Center, FL, and Margaret Ellen Taylor of Bedford, VA; brothers John Thomas Coleman of Woodstock, GA,Raymond Coleman of Williamson, WV, and Gary Bradley Coleman of Sedalia, MO. She has 50 nieces and nephews.A celebration of Anna’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Ray Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Joel “JJ” Joseph of Saint Petersburg, Florida passed away February 28th, 2016 suddenly in his sleep. He was 44 years old. Joel was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania on March 12, 1971. He attended Calvary Baptist Academy where he graduated in 1989. Joel served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp. He worked as a mail carrier for several years in Strongstown, Pennsylvania. Joel attended Hillsborough Community College in Florida and also attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Joel worked at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital in Florida and had also worked at Salem Veterans Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. Joel loved the outdoors, he loved hunting and fishing and grilling on his BBQ pit. He enjoyed his family and friends and was always there when someone needed help. Joel enjoyed making people laugh with his wild and crazy humor and had a caring heart for his work and taking care of his Veteran patients. Joel is survived by his parents Joe and Carol; sister Diane Bridge and husband Jay; brothers, Barry Joseph, Nathan Joseph and wife Anna; nieces, Mariah, Madison and Morgynne Bridge, and his girlfriend Kris Windell all of Lynchburg. A celebration of Joel’s life will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday March 5, 2016 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am Saturday. Joel’s’ uncle the Rev. Fred Joseph will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park with full military honors. Mabel Reynolds Gillette , 90, of Lynchburg, Va., died Sunday, February 28, 2016. She was the loving wife of the late John Ralph Gillette. Mabel was born Monday, March 16, 1925 in Campbell Co., Va., a daughter of the late David Gilmore and Mary Evie Reynolds. Left to cherish her memory are devoted nieces and nephews, Debra Spradlin, Angie Bryant, Mark Smith, Chris Bryant and many others. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Joseph Joyner, and eleven brothers. A celebration of Mabel's life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home’s Lynchburg Chapel on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Mary Lou (Stahl) Deuber , 72, of Lynchburg, Va., died Saturday, February 27, 2016. A daughter of the late Benjamin Hubbard and Agnes June Stahl, Mary was born Sunday, January 30, 1944 in Penn. Mary attended Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her daughters, Nancy Gameson and husband, Lyn; Sharon Richter and husband, Marc; grandchildren, Victoria, Margaret, Abigail, Joshua Richter and Ceri Gameson. She also leaves behind many dear neighbors and friends in the Lynchburg area and the many places she lived previously. A memorial service will be held to honor Mary’s life at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016 with Rev. Ron Cox officiating. Cheryl Sue Snyder Georgiana, 55, of Evington, stepped into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 28, 2016, following a brief illness. Cheryl was born on Saturday, April 09, 1960 to Ruth M. Snyder, currently of Lynchburg and the late Raymond M. Snyder, Jr. In addition to her mother, Cheryl is survived by her son, Jason Paul Georgiana, a granddaughter, Kayla Nicole Georgiana, both of Evington, three sisters, Sandy Lane and her husband, Steve, of Evansville, IN, Linda Marsh and her husband, David, of Crumpler, NC, and Marilyn Nestor, of Leesburg, VA and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her father, Cheryl was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond M. Snyder, III. Cheryl was a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother. She was the happiest when serving others. She loved unconditionally, putting others needs ahead of hers. A Celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at her home.
