Sandra Barnette Worley, 74, of Lynchburg, Va., died Friday, May 12, 2017.  She was the wife of the late Garland Wayne Worley . She is survived by her daughters, Karen Mayhew, and her husband Barry of Bedford, Va. and Cynthia Worley, and husband Kenny of Bedford ,Va. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Victoria Lynn Doss. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Frank Allen Pennix was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 14, 2017.  He was born on July 28, 1973 to Catherine Pennix and Fred Calloway. He leaves to cherish his memory two children, Shakiyah (Peaches) and Kharil (Christian). He is also survived by two brothers, Frederick and James Pennix of Lynchburg, Va.; sisters, Nikki Pennix (Lawrence) of Bedford, Va., Katherine Sanders (Kevin) of Colo., and Cynthia Pennix of Lynchburg, Va.; and his grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Pennix. He leaves behind a host of nieces, aunts, nephews, cousins and friends as well. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday, May 20 at 3 p.m. The family is receiving friends at 123 Federal Street, Lynchburg, VA 24501. Christine Ryan Ruble, 90, of Lynchburg, Va., died Sunday, May 14, 2017.  She was the wife of the late Edward Ruble, Jr. Christine was born Friday, March 4, 1927 in Campbell County, Va., a daughter of the late Horatio Madison Ryan and Myrtle Morris Ryan. She was retired from General Electric. She was a member of Forest Road United Methodist Church. Christine had a great passion for quilting, sewing, cross-stitching, and baking. She loved to share these delights with others. She and Eddie’s door was always open to any friends, neighbors, and relatives. Christine is survived by her daughters, Gail Ruble and Glenda R. West (Mike); grandchildren, Ryan Bierowski (Laura), Amy McMurray (Nathan) and Julie Evans (Matt); great-grandchildren, Landon, Laylah, and Laney Bierowski, Kaitlyn and Caleb Evans; sister, Victoria Jamerson; sister-in-law, Thelma Ryan; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Christian and Ida Marie Spruce Puckett; brothers, Horatio “Pete” Ryan, Jr., Clarence Ryan, and Richard Ryan. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A celebration of Christine's life will be conducted in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Ray Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be sent to Forest Road United Methodist Church, 2805 Old Forest Road, Lynchburg, Va., 24501. Phyllis Herring Caldwell, 70, of Lynchburg died Tuesday, May 16, 2017. She was the wife of the late Archer “Donnie” Donald Caldwell Sr. Phyllis was born Tuesday, May, 6, 1947 in Charlottesville, a daughter of the late Willie B. Herring and the late Edith Mae Herring. Phyllis was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother; she had a loving nature and showed it by opening her heart and home to many that she now considers her grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Archer “Donnie” Caldwell Jr.; two brothers, Ronnie L. Herring, Ollie B. Herring and wife Barbara all of Charlottesville; brother-in-laws, Robert W. Caldwell and wife Wanda of Vinton and Charles “Bo” Hall of Charlottesville; her special grandchildren, Daniel J. Shaver, Jada N. Le, Joshua R. Gunter, Jacob S. Clevenger and Jamie “Buddy” L. Conner; twelve nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Delores Ketchersid and Kathy Driskill. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tabatha Ann Caldwell; two sisters, Charlotte Ann Herring and Joyce Marie Hall; and a brother, Thomas J. Herring. A Celebration of Phyllis’s Life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverend’s Elizabeth Ecklund and the Reverend Becky Cloud. Annice Martin Williams

Annice Violet Williams, 95, of Forest, died Thursday, May 18, 2017.  She was the wife of the late Maurice Andrew Williams Sr. for 54 years. Born Monday, June 20, 1921 in Appomattox County, Annice was a daughter of the late Otho Wesley Martin, Sr. and the late Lula Belle Goodman Martin. In addition to her husband and parents, Annice was preceded in death by two brothers, Otho, Jr. and David, and four sisters, Carrie Emza, Christine, Isabelle, and Ellen. Annice is survived by her children, Carol W. Marsh and her husband, Dave, of Richwood, WVA, Andy Williams and his wife, Susan, of Amherst, and  Kathy W. Burnley and her husband, Mike, of Concord; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren; a sister in-law, Lillian M. Martin, of Concord; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Annice was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother in-law, aunt, and friend to our family. She was a gentle, godly woman, well known and loved for her kind ways and words. So many have been truly blessed to have had her for so long. She was such an angel here, and now is there in her peaceful rest. We love you. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. (noon) until 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.  A celebration of Annice's life will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Dr. H.O. Tom Thomas officiating.  Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park, with food and fellowship afterwards at Bethany United Methodist Church. Nancy Shotwell Haga, 85, of Lynchburg, died Friday, May 19, 2017. She was the wife of Harry Vincent Haga. Born November 20, 1931 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry Clark Shotwell and the late Pauline Preston Phipps. Nancy was a member of Peakland Baptist Church, graduated from E.C. Glass High School as valedictorian and later attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. She graduated from the University of North Carolina and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In addition to her husband she is survived by her son Dr. David S. Haga;  two granddaughters,  Virginia Leigh Haga and Meredith  Haga Fox and husband Forrest Tanner Fox;  her sister, Martha S. Hickson; a niece, Ellen Hickson Haga; two nephews, Robert Walker Hickson and Steven Shotwell Hickson. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to, Peakland Baptist Church, 4018 Peakland Place Lynchburg, Va. 24503 A private memorial service will be held. Alice Kimbley Hicks, 87, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, May 20, 2017. Born Thursday, February 27, 1930 in Lovettsville, VA, Alice was a daughter of the late Arthur and Sadie Kimbley. Alice is survived by her children, Delisa A. Hicks and Robert Jordon; two grandchildren, Bryan and Derek Engelke; and a sister, Patsy Halfmann. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by one brothers and six sisters. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.   A graveside service will follow at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Virginia Memorial Park with Rev. Dona Marie Pillow Forehand

Dona Marie Pillow Forehand, 67, returned to her heavenly home on May 20, 2017. Her devotion to her family and a firm belief in the Lord supported her through her health struggles and ultimately gave her peace. Dona was born to Rev. Charles Douglas and Mrs. Eleanor Smith Pillow, on September 29, 1949. She was immersed in the civic and Christian community. She served for many organizations including YWCA Board of Directors, Lynchburg Historical Foundation Board of Directors, Lynchburg College Alumni Board, President of the Junior League of Lynchburg, Lynchburg Symphony Board of Directors, James River Day School Board of Trustees, Chairman of the 9 Hole Golf Association Boonsboro Country Club, and an active member of Peakland United Methodist Church until her health began to fail, serving on their Administrative Board, teaching Sunday School and singing in the Chancel Choir. Dona was proud to have been Miss Lynchburg and Miss Virginia 1972 and a graduate of Lynchburg College, earning her degree in education. She taught briefly before marrying Mr. James Butler Forehand, Jr. and starting a family. She was most proud of her son, James Butler Forehand. III and daughter, Sarah Douglas Forehand and she shined as a mother and wife. She adored her grandchildren Brenna Marie Forehand (12) and Nolyn Robert Forehand (9) and relished the time she spent with them. Dona lit up the room wherever she went. Her exuberance, sense of humor and beauty was immediately recognized to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was dedicated to God and her family. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. A celebration of life benediction was found among her saved processions and it is a perfect description of how she was loved and will be missed. Celebrating A Life: We will share and treasure that I carry in my heart. Her memory is safely kept within all the love she spent on me is held in sweet reserve, Every kiss and every touch and every precious grin. I’ll miss the many things she did. Each one will be remembered gratefully. Though I will miss her through the years. I am comforted to know she’s with her Lord, until we meet again and share eternity. Dona is survived by her, husband Jimmy; her parents Doug and Eleanor; her son James and his wife Kasey; daughter Sarah; step-daughters Linda Forehand and Karen Howard; her grandchildren Brenna and Nolyn; her step-grandchildren, Max, Brandon and Ryan Howard; her brother, Rick Pillow and his wife Amy and her nephew Pastor Patrick Pillow; niece Madeline Pillow. A celebration of Dona’s life will be held at Peakland United Methodist on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11am with a reception to follow. Rev. John Vest of Peakland United Methodist Church, Rev. Bill Burleigh of Court Street United Methodist Church and Pastor Patrick Pillow of Chester United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Ronald Joseph Dietrich

Ronald Joseph Dietrich 77 of Smith Mountain Lake passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 21, 2017. He was surrounded by loving family and friends in his final days.   Ron is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Paula Jean Mikula Dietrich; his two sons and their wives, Eric S. Dietrich (Lisa) and Kurt D. Dietrich (Michelle); and granddaughter Kadence.  He also has three nieces; Sandy Beck, Susan Kuz and Sharon Goza.   Born in Hammond, Indiana on May 21, 1940, Ron was the son of the late Joseph and Gisella Artinger Dietrich. In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his sister Lillian Poi of Griffith Indiana.   Ron attended both Perdue and Northwestern Universities.  He proudly served his county in the U.S. Army, while based in Germany. He enjoyed a successful career of 35 years with SCM Powdered Metals, where he retired as Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  In retirement, he served as a Consultant and Board Member for Symmco Metals of Pennsylvania. He was a seasoned expert in the powdered metals industry and he was an active member of APMI, the leading institute of his trade.   Ron was an active member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Moneta, Va.  He enjoyed golf, fishing, a good game of cards, and spending time on Smith Mountain Lake with family and friends. Ron was an avid follower of the financial markets and enjoyed observing and analyzing trends.   The family welcomes friends to join them for a Celebration of Ron’s Life to be held at Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta, Va, on June 16, 2017.  There will be a gathering at 11:00, with a service at Noon, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall in the lower level of the Church.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please make donations to Lake Christian Ministries, or to Southwest Food Bank. Jerald Thomas Morris, Sr.

Jerald Thomas Morris Sr. was born on June 6, 1940 in Bedford, Va.  He entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 21, 2017 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Lynchburg, Va, as well as Central Virginia Community College.  Along with his academic achievement he also served one term in the United States Air Force and went on to retire with the United Stated Naval Reserve. At the time of his passing he was a faithful member and Deacon at Peaceful Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack N. Morris, Sr., sister Teresa Johnson, mother Outry Pannell, and brother John Morris (Maxine). Jerald leaves to cherish his memory his brother Jack N. Morris Jr. (Eva), daughter Nannetta Davis (Ron), sons Ozell (Veronica) and J. T. (Sherice). Six grandchildren, Tyson Mitchell, Capri Delvaux, Jo’Nique Morris, Meshauna Wade, Tacoia Morris, Tinia Morris, Jayden Morris and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other devoted relatives and friends. Desiree Elaine Hannon Strader, 46, of Moneta passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017. She was the loving wife of the late Lonnie Lee Strader. Born in Florida on July 20, 1970 she was a daughter of George Noel Hannon and Karin Dreydoppel Hannon. In addition to her parents, Desiree is survived by her son; Austin Nash Strader and two sisters: Dawn Reynolds and Debra Hannon Harvey.  Desiree lived for and loved her family and friends, they meant everything to her. Joseph George Detamore, 78, of Bedford died Monday, May 22, 2017 at his residence.  He was the husband of the late D. Joyce Detamore. Born January 20, 1939 in Bedford, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Sally Julia Bradley Detamore. In addition to his wife, Joe is preceded in death by two granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.  He owned his own Excavating  Company He is survived by his son: Joey Detamore; two daughters, Tammey Detamore  and John Laughon; Sherry Lafon and husband, Clinton; family friend: Valerie Agee all of Bedford; ten grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He also leaves behind his precious pets, Lacey and Bailey. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Holdren and Minister Kenneth Lafon officiating.                         Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
